do you know some people who clearly live for & love the soul- & culture-nourishing preservation of creative fire, but it often seems as if they really just wanna ignite new fires madly & endlessly & forever, amen?
i count myself fortunate to have known some folks like that, here on this still-blue globe. i know more, now.
it seems to me that this Mars recording isn’t Martian; i don’t think it’s some kinda outer- space music. while i revel in the music’s very own sense of spaciousness, i definitely don’t find it alien, it’s just lit up – it smolders & burns & brightly soothes with the humane & plainly (plaintive) emotive purpose of 2 magnetically resonating musicians.
Space Music? no, nope: Earth Music? well, yeah. Folk Music? well... i dunno, could be, but these songs on Mars are written by Tim & reimagined in-real-time by he & Gregg: them 2 being edified by, appreciative & respectful of those who’ve come before, & es- pecially those ones who stayed lit and busted their own asses & spirits in order to continue initiating the kinds of flames that push us all to strive to express & to feel things of life & lives that may otherwise be functionally inexplicable, and may even be ineffable, somehow.
and, here, on this Mars: how do they do this, these performances? they weave them with dynamic, magically flowing clarity of discourse arising from already harmonious Berne- songs, these direct & committed missives of soul, these bluely rainbowing refractions of perfect form-ricocheting-&-boomeranging-thru-perfectly-formless-to-perfect-form: simply gorgeous & then more gorgeous & touching, again. fuck, yeah.
Tradition? seems like fire is being preserved, as fresh ones are ignited.
